Physical description
The front side depicts the "Parade shield with stories of Giugurta" (1550-1560) preserved in the Royal Armoury of Turin.
The shield narrates episodes from the battle waged by Jugurthas, king of the Numids, against the Romans led by Marius between 112 and 105 BC and recounted by Sallust in "De bello Francia" (1547-1559).
In the first catalogue of the Armoury (1840) the shield is attributed to Benvenuto Cellini or Giulio Romano;
